The Norwood Scale: Hair Loss Stages

Stage I

There is minimal regression in the front hairline, but this regression is not noticeable.

 

Stage II

Tension in the front hairline is noticeable, but there may also be forehead regression with age.

 

Stage III

There is significant regression in the anterior hairline. It may be accompanied by thinning in the hill region.

 

Stage IV

There is significant regression in the anterior hairline. The difference from Stage 3 is that there is now a clear gap in the hill area. There is a hairy area between the front and back. Hair loss stages;

 

Stage V

The anterior hairline has regressed even more than stage 3, and the gap in the crown area has increased. Severe thinning has begun in the hairy area between the front and back.
